Shock Absorbers

The SHOCK ABSORBERS program (also certificate based) targets early career direct care nurses (preferably > 3 y of practice experience) and prepares them to respond to the transition crisis (6-7 months post-orientation) period of the newly graduated nurse. The intent is for these mentors to support new graduates who are beyond their initial stages of transition but struggling with larger picture issues related to advancing their nursing practice and contributing to the optimization of the healthcare system.

NTF will occupy a consulting role, working with institutions/workplaces to harness the experiential knowledge of the transition experience in early career graduates, and offer frameworks, tools and ongoing support for transition issue identification and solution-focused interventions. Working with local and regional educators, managers and senior nurses, SHOCK ABSORBERS will be called upon to partner with graduates to support them with compassionate guidance, grounded perspective, skill development framed within a strong underlying knowledge of the transition experience. The intent of these mentors is to guide the new graduate out of the storm and toward a healthy and satisfying professional integration.
